Our Goal

Compass with the support of LPE, are “Shining a Light” on Autism this April for International Autism Awareness month. Our aim is to raise awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with Autism in our community. This goes hand-in-hand with our BIG goal, which is to raise $100,000 to help support local young adults with Autism, who access Compass programs. These funds will go towards extending Compass programs and investing in sensory spaces and resources across our Campuses.

How will the funds we raise help people with Autism?

One of the most common experiences for people with Autism is sensory overload and overwhelm. When any person is in a state of constant overwhelm and anxiety, it’s extremely difficult to function, let alone to learn, develop, build relationships and be our best selves.

Sensory spaces and resources are designed to help reduce stress and over-stimulation and to help bring about a sense of calm. Once a person is more calm and grounded and their immediate triggers are removed, they can move into a space where learning, development – and happiness! - are possible.

Examples of sensory spaces and equipment include things like therapy swings, compression blankets, lava lamps, dim lighting, calming music, black-out tents and tactile objects.

Funds raised will go directly towards ensuring more young adults who attend Compass can get access to these types of resources across our key Campuses, along with programs that are designed to help make best use of them. Together we can ensure that everyone has an opportunity for optimal living and learning.

Who's lighting it up?

LPE is thrilled to be the major sponsor of the Compass “Shine a Light for Autism” Campaign this April. We’re all about getting behind local organisations that are doing great things for our local community! Compass’ message is an important one so throughout Autism Awareness Month, we’re doing our part to help increase awareness and acceptance of our unique differences, and to help Compass reach their $100,000 FUNDRAISING GOAL to support young adults with Autism to live a life they love.
